Danny Plotnick is an underground filmmaker and author. In 1986, he made Skate Witches, a two-minute Super 8 film about a gang of female skateboarders. The Skate Witches, played by Dana Forrester, Karen Kibler and Jenny Parker, talk a tough game and terrorize the local boy skateboarders. The film has gone on to be a cult hit, inspiring comics, songs (by Teen Suicide and Mommy Long Legs), and more importantly female skateboarders worldwide. The Skate Witch collective and the skate group Brujas have named their crews after the film. Plotnick has just published the book Super 8: An Illustrated History. The book is a 240 page coffee table art book detailing the rich history of Super 8 filmmaking. It is filled with hundreds of vintage images and original photographs detailing the beautiful industrial design of the medium. The book also includes several behind-the-scenes essays about the making of Skate Witches.
